Spreading Genital Warts: How it Happens

Many people don’t hear much about genital warts until they contract the disease or someone that they know tells them that they are infected. The Spreading of Genital Warts

The spreading of genital warts is really simple, and this is because the disease is very infectious and many people who have the disease don’t even know it, inadvertently spreading it to their sexual partners. Genital warts is transmitted through sexual contact. You can get genital warts even when using a condom, though using a condom will limit your chances of getting the disease. You don’t just have to have intercourse to be spreading genital warts, if you have oral sex or anal sex with someone who is infected you can catch the disease, as well. There are also some incidences where people are able to catch genital warts by sharing towels, bathing suits, and things of this nature with an infected individual.

It only takes having contact with someone who is infected with genital warts once to become infected. While many people are having contact with infected individuals, not everyone will actually develop the disease. About 2/3 of people who have contact with an infected individual will develop the disease. Not everyone who has contact with such an individual and develops the disease will become symptomatic, which may mean that they go on to spread the disease.

Some of the symptoms of genital warts include:

• Small flesh or gray colored swellings or bumps in your genital region
• A grouping of warts anywhere on your body that have a cauliflower like appearance
• Any itching or discomfort in your genital region
• Bleeding during or after intercourse

If you have any of these symptoms you should refrain from having contact with other people until you can be checked out by a doctor. A doctor can tell you whether or not what you have is genital warts and they can also help you understand how you can limit spreading genital warts to other people. Luckily, there are many treatment options for the disease that will allow you to live without the often painful and irritating warts.
